About

ReelValues is a destination devoted to exploring the values of our popular culture with an emphasis on film, television, and other expanding media platforms.

We are the staff at Reagan.com. We market a paid email service. In other words, you can subscribe and receive “your-name”@Reagan.com. Our service is simple. For a nominal yearly subscription fee, you receive a private email address. We never sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your identity, your email data, or other “forensics” regarding your online behavior as it relates to our service. Never have, never will. We believe you have an inalienable right to privacy and to be left alone. Do not be deceived, free email services are not free. Other providers often scan your email, track your behavior, and traffic in your personal identity for profit.

Why are we establishing a site disseminating movie reviews? (We hope to initiate book reviews soon, also.) Simple. Few mediums stir the imagination as film, TV (and now long-form television). More importantly, visual stories are now arguably the most powerful force in shaping values and culture. Yet, Hollywood often treats audiences with distain, especially those who do not share Hollywood’s viewpoint. We seek to frame this body of work within a set of values – values that we believe are timeless. Though Ronald Reagan is labeled a conservative, most of his views are simply common sense. Most libertarians and classical liberals would agree. We believe that the legacy of Ronald Reagan can frame our popular culture in a unique way.

Obviously, much of the messaging in movies, television, and streaming content today is purposed solely to push an agenda. Got it. Noted. Nuf said. By bringing light to those instances, we can neutralize such messaging. In the meantime, there could be a touching story, dramatic cinematography, or an Oscar performance. These can be enjoyed without guilt once the politics/indecorum are exposed.

We start with the premise of a limited government and individual liberty.

“I hope we once again have reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.”

– Ronald Reagan

We will weave in many of Reagan’s values and honestly assess such within the context of our troubled nation today. Reagan, being a Hollywood actor himself, is life story to reflect on our culture and the media that we consume. In some cases, a film or TV production exhibits no redeeming qualities. In other cases a production is entertaining, yet has a political overtone. We will expose such situations. In exposing the agenda we diffuse it, as light is a disinfectant, letting the entertainment value shine through. We might give ourselves permission to enjoy well-produced projects even though actors, script writers, et. al. decided to make a political statement or promote depravity. Again, their power is drained by exposing antithetical beliefs and values.

Above all we wish to serve our audience. Our work is targeted to young and old and from all walks of life. We must do right by the legacy of Ronald Reagan. None of us are infallible, but we believe President Reagan was a needed leader during some difficult times in our nation’s history. We can learn much from his love of life.

Finally, we plan to keep this site open to the public. We ask that you support us by subscribing to a “my-username@reagan.com” email address. (In time will add other domains to the Reagan.com and 1791mail.com families.) We are proud of our service and are here to expand our reach and services as they relate to privacy. Our best wishes to you and yours.
